Bavarian Lunch Gift Package
Storage information
German brand Bologna, Beer Sausage and Deli Spread liver sausage: these sausages stay fresh up to 4 weeks, unopened, when kept refrigerated. Weisswurst, Wieners and Leberkaese keep for one week after arrival if refrigerated in original vacuum tight packaging. Should packaging become loose—indicating an air leak—remove sausage immediately. Sausages need air circulation, so do not wrap opened sausage pieces in plastic wrap when storing in refrigerator. You can use any type of paper or paper towel.
All these sausages can also be frozen. Wrap the German Brand Bologna, Beer Sausage and Deli Spread tightly with plastic or freezer paper when putting in freezer so sausage casings do not split open. Weisswurst, Wieners and Leberkaese can be frozen in their original packaging or, if opened, wrap in freezer wrap. You can freeze these items up to 2 months without affecting their flavor or quality. Defrost slowly in refrigerator. The Leberkaese will need a minimum of 2 days to defrost. Do not thaw at room temperature.
Swiss cheese should be refrigerated upon arrival. Mustard and cornichons, should be refrigerated after opening.
How to serve:
All these sausages are fully cooked.
For a real Bavarian lunch, serve the Weisswurst and Wieners warm. To heat, bring a pot of water to a boil, drop in Weisswurst and Wieners, turn off heat, cover and let sit for 15 minutes. Put in a terrine filled with hot water to keep sausages warm and set on table. It is usually best to remove the outer casing from the Weisswurst before eating. Serve with mustard, cornichons and fresh bread.
German brand Bologna and Beer Sausage can be sliced as cold cuts for sandwiches and topped with slices of Swiss cheese and mustard. They can also be sliced in ½ inch thick pieces and fried until brown and served for breakfast with eggs and potatoes.
Leberkaese can be heated whole (see label for instructions) or slice into ½ inch thick pieces and brown on each side. Serve with mustard, fried potatoes and a green salad.
The Deli Spread liver sausage is delicious spread on fresh Italian bread and topped with a cornichon. You can also spread it on any type of bread and top with either the German brand Bologna or Beer Sausage. To make a quick appetizer, just spread some of the liver sausage on crackers and serve with the Swiss cheese that has been cut into cubes.
